how are you all doing, and how is Newcastle? I hope everyone is on par with their studies and not straggling or struggling. If you are, pls don't hesitate to ask advice from each other.

Anyways, I am planning to make a phamplet for BNS and of course BNSA. So, I would like to have some pictures and some testimonials from you guys to make this phamplet a success. Good and bad news

Hi to everybody.

I will announce two news this week.

1st the good news, a friend of mine has successfully got their Stationary vending machine in Pandon building, Northumbria university. I hope you all will use your spare time to check this vending machine out. Perhaps purchase something out of it. Still STATIONARY vending machine, sounds cool and new to me. :) Spread the words and DO CHECK IT OUT!!!!

Another one is a bad news, a friend if mine is diagnosed breast cancer. I just knew it today. So I am asking all of you to have a moment to pray for her that she'll get through this one. And have another healthy life ahead. It would be awesome if any of you could help by visting to this link REACHING OUT If you are thinking to donate for her medication and treatment fund please contact Shabby Chic via e-mail or phone. Doesn't matter how much you will donate or pray for her, everything counts and WILL make a different. I am only here to do my best to help her to see her being healthy and able to smile again. How's everything with you all? Have not seen you all since the BNS bowling tournament! Check out facebook for all the awesome pictures and all the smiley faces. For those who won the tournament -- congratulations! :) To those who did not win, try again. After all it is the fun that counts and being there for each other :) Saw couples of you shop for cool things -- Royal quays is another place to shop. Take a metro to Meadow well -- and you will discover the other side of Newcastle.

March is already here, so I hope all of you already have plans for revisions, vacations and some sort. Easter is also coming -- not sure if any of you will be celebrating it for the heck of it.

I see many people advertsing their sales, promotions and some sort here. I am impressed! I should do this for myself too. Here it goes, to any of you who is needing personalised card with lots of personal meanings pouring in it, let me know, I can make lots of great things with your pictures or your favorite things. FEB FEB Fabulous update

Here are some updates on what's going on with BNS for the members.

There are 2 upcoming events for our society this February. On this Saturday, 21st February, 2009, we will be going to angel of the north. And the second event will be in conjunction of Brunei Darussalam national day, which we are going bowling on the Saturday, 28th February.

All are welcome to join, regardless of members or non-members. The more the merrier.

Below are the details for the events:

Angel of the North

Date: 21st February 2009
Time: 12 pm
Meeting place: Stand G, Eldon square coach station. (Bus service no. 21)

Note: Bus service is provided by GoNortheast. It will cost GBP3.20 for a return ticket to angel of the north. It will take approximately 30 minutes from Eldon square to Angel of the north.

Bowling competition

Date: 28th February 2009
Time: 11 am
Venue: Star bowl, Royal quays factory outlet

How to go there? Use metro train from monument, going towards North shield. The nearest stop to royal quays will be Percy main. It will cost GBP2.90 for a day return.

Bowling will cost roughly GBP6.00 each. Payment will be made on the day before the event starts. It will be group competition. There will be draws for grouping. Each group consists of 6 players, 3 males and 3 females. The group which has the highest point wins the competition. Best male and female contestant is also rewarded.

update from Brunei

I assume everyone in NCL knows there had been flash floods and landslides in Brunei due to the bad weather and all, so I just want to assur everyone that everything is alright.

before I begin, lemme just let u know who I am: Nina =D

As of today, there had been 4 unaccounted landslides, only two made it in the papers. One in Subok and on in Sg Tilong. In fact, quite near my house Spg 420-12. That got me worried actually, 'cause I know someone lives there...I think? Not yours, Mie? I hope not.

Last Saturday (6th February), two houses behind my own (spg 370-86) was also affected by a landslide. And Not an ordinary landslide. It was a slump (geographians, u know what I am talking about).

My two neighbours were asked to move out within the hour immediately as soon as the Fire Brigade came (while I was yelled at for being too close to the brink of the landslide).

Now, I am not telling you guys this for sympathy or anything, it is always for a good cause. Just letting u know this is really going on and maybe -just maybe- you have been left out in the dark about the reality the La Nina Phenomenon is causing Brunei.

In fact, it came to mind that this is what caused the weather drastics in UK as well. I heard London had a snow storm. Wales was snowing after 4 years. What about Newcastle? I haven't heard much. Has it been snowing heavily?

These are telltale signs. So be aware about the weather. Make sure you won't get snowed in or anything, Nau'zubillah. Do pray for Brunei's safety and for your families' safety. Let's hope this rainy season will cease as soon as possible.

Oh my GOD it is Monday

Another disappointing discovery. NO updates from the committees... Where the heck you guys have been.

Anyways -- I am such a silly person, I went to Metrocentre to support one of the committees member - Amie & I did not even thought of taking pictures. Well I hope some of you did, and please e-mail it to me at bebs.mj@gmail.com It would be highly appreciated. To whoever came to Metrocentre and bought something yesterday - Thank you very much! You guys are freaking awesome and sporting. I really hope Amie and the gang had fun, regardless all the hardships they'd been through.

To all the BNS members - I hope all of you have received the BNS hoodies. Wear them and be proud. UK should know where Brunei is and of courseencourage them to come visit Brunei. However at the moment I do not think it will be the best time though. I am very sorry to hear that Brunei has been flooded for few days. To all of you who is reading this, do pray that Brunei is going to be blessed and will stop flooding sooner. Also, wanted to take this opportunity to ask all of you to give Al-fatihah to all the people who left us for good. May their soul rest in peace and bless. Amin!

I have nothing much to update forBNS - I have not even heard of anything from them. I still think... BNS should host SINGSTAR or YOUTUBE karaoke night! I think this is an awesome suggestion. I am sure that we do need some cables and microphones to make this possible. To be frank, there are few BNS members and committee - so why not collect a fund for it. I bet it will be less expensive! There are so many things or events BNS can host i.e. BNS Ball, BNS dinner, BNS House Party, BNS Doa Selamat/Tahlil, BNS a fun day out, BNS head-2-head challenge... etc etc. I would like to see more members involvement this year. It would be fun! Have a very deep thinking about it committees!!!!!!!!!

Regarding the BRUNOTTS - any of you people in Newcastle participating? I bet the guys will definitely participating the Football events :)

been too quiet!

Was hoping an update when I check this blog. Oh well, perhaps everybody is busy stuffing their brain with last minute revision. Good luck to everybody who is stressing with all of your revisions. Mudah - mudahan semua kamu and myself will pass and get good grades - Amin.

As of today, I am done with two papers. I said this so many times and I think the world know this - I might have screwed both papers. But I think God knows better and a lesson to learn here ladies and gentlemen - DO NOT revise anything up to your last breathe. Dramatic but realistic! I am off to have few more hours break before all THE STRESSING begins.

PS: I was asked to get a camera for myself, so I can update the blog with more pictures and such. Anyone consider donating some money for new SONY camera for me? I have not gotten any digital camera apart from my mobile phones. Perhaps something BNS can think of giving me as birthday present in advance? :p Good luck everybody and may everything will go well for all of us - Amin.

Before I go... Here is a little something for all of you who is reading this (obviously). Put a smile on your face, laugh when you feel really down, scream when you need to, be quiet if you got nothing smart to say and sleep all your exhaustion on your warm nice bed!

Happy new year to everybody. Hope you enjoy and learn a lot from 2008. People come & go in this life, however do not forget to cherish every moments you have with them. All the mistakes you have made, do not repeat it, but improve yourself. :)

I am sure all of you currently are busy with assignments, extensive revision and dissertation. Fortunately, for some people... they will have a longer uni holidays. Have fun and sleep as much as you can before uni starts. To all of you who starts uni today, good morning and smell the coffee.

Anyways, enjoy your new year with lots of blessings. BNS committees I wonder if there is any activities planned for the members after their exams. I got a suggestion -- let's go Karaoke (singstar) at Bob's or even better at Habita, Northumbria University every Thursday!

How are your winter break going? I am pretty sure that most of you went for a holiday or holidays. Others might shop till they drop dead broke. Some people might party before Christmas. Now the festive season is almost over but there's another one coming... New year! Before I said more things on this. Happy New Year to all the Muslims! BNS, do you have any plans for the members new year's eve?

From what I knew there will be Glowmobile show and ends with fireworks on 31st Dec 2008. Will check details furthermore. Found it! Here are the details, GLOWMOBILE & FIREWORK <- click here. Come one and come all... By the way, as an advance warning, bus times will end earlier on New Year's Eve. Below is ONLY for STAGECOACH buses timetables.

Edinburgh Trip

The trip to Edinburgh was not so bad. I was hoping to stay there longer to get the "mood" for Scotland. Edinburgh in my opinion is sort of a mixed of London and Newcastle, not as busy as London though.

Unfortunately I did not really go anywhere but the City and the mall. However, I did manage to see some nice scenery, no pictures though. I am sure Malol got some good pictures of these scenery. I learn something about Scotland and the culture. The people are not too bad. They are all right. Still Newcastle people ROCKS!

The exciting weekend. for me personally I think it is exciting :) trip to EDINBURGH, Scotland! Been to Perth once to visit my cousin but never been to Edinburgh. So whoever is going on this trip, I am looking forward for this & hope all of you lot will ENJOY this trip.

How are you all doing? I definitely almost finished my Consumer Behaviour assignment. It was not my best one, but I did my best at the last minute. Why Deco says "It feels Like Home"

"It is because it does feels like home. Before I came to Newcastle, I was like 'Nope, I don't need any Bruneian, I'm good without them'. But as soon as I arrived in Newcastle, I was like 'God, I need a Bruneian friend!!' So people like Bibi, Boby and Is (Even though he is Malaysian but who cares anyway) made me 'feel like home' and so does the rest of BNS members.

From my perspective, the number of Bruneians in Newcastle is not too many and not to little, but just nice. ;D"

November is here! How is everybody doing for the past 2 months? Juniors, I do hope all of you is not too homesick by now, and it is great to meet all of you. In few months time, it will be Christmas and not to spoil the holiday mood -- but exam is around the corner. So do start revising and attending lectures, at least do your notes! :p I wonder what will the BNS will organize for us in December -- hoping something awesome and FUN!

Just a quick announcement, the tickets for the Edinburgh trip is now on sale!!! To get yours, contact Farhana at 07932083567 or myself at 07798725537 or 07515442655 to set a meeting place. Prices are 28 pounds for BNS members and 29 pounds for non-members. Tickets are to be paid for by cash only. Priority for the tickets are given to those who have booked a place for now. The remaining tickets will then be sold on a first come first serve basis starting Saturday 1st November. So, if you did not manage to book a place, you can still get a ticket. For more information and details about the trip, please contact Farhana.

Halloween Bash

Hope everyone's not too bothered with the cold (we know we are!). As we all know, Halloween is approaching and we, 179 Dilston Road, want to invite you to a Halloween bash at our place.

We are going to have a horror films marathon later during the night. Suggestions for what horror films we should watch are welcome.

Canon's & Paw's Eid Open house

Who say Eid in UK has no fun? I am sure everybody who is not celebrating with the family, will feel abit sad and all. I have been there & done that. Think of the bright side of it -- its not like you are always not celebrating Eid without family. Being together here in UK with other Bruneians/ International students/people is a dream people would kill for to experience!

I do not really have anything much to say -- But the open house is HAPPENING because we are from Newcastle baby~ Of course, the foods are awesome. All of my friends commented it was good! I am glad that almost everybody is enjoying this blog. Though the poll will stay open for now. Please just keep on voting to whoever hasn't done so. Anyways, thanks for all the positive feedback from the readers and the BNS committee.

However, I really do not mind casual "gossip" going on the chatbox. I would rather not share something too personal on this blog/chatbox. BNS committees will do their best. Alternatively, I am here to hear you out too. Come on people. Make this blog like a REALLY big deal for you guys! LOLS I know most of us live close to each other, but for the heck of it. Make this blog alive withsome of your comments, chats or "nostalgic Happy moments" in Newcastle. Seniors share some of the hardship during your first few months living away from home. Also any advise about renting house? Any particular areas for the Bruneian student should not go? Your favorite "halal" place to eat. How to get a part-time job? What shoud the students do when they feel down and sorrow?

There are many things to be shared and making Bruneian/other international students here to feel better and learned your lesson & not to repeat it. Sharing is good for something. Definitely not "boyfriend" sharing! BUT tips how to manage long distance relationship might ease some of our "in love" students here too.

Most of all -- Lets have each others hand now and really get 1st Class for this year and next year. After all, this is what we are here for. However -- it does not mean we stop enjoying our "temporary" life in a beautiful city called Newcastle upon Tyne. To all members and committees: They are many challenging and adventurous journey awaits us! Be prepared and do it in "our" way.

Cheers, got to go for 4 freaking hours seminar and lectures now... :S

Hello everyone...

I hope you guys had a great time during the ice breaking session last Wednesday as much as the committee hope so ;)

Today, we had a meeting with Singapore Society on collaborating an event of 2 days and 1 night to Scotland land called Edinburgh. Transportation will be coach. The estimated price will be GBP 30.00 inclusive with accommodation. A very reasonable and affordable price for 2 DAYS and a NIGHT to Edinburgh!

DATE: 22ND TO 23RD NOVEMBER 2008 (GROUP TRIP)

BNS Weekend to Edinburgh

on 22nd November:
For GBP30.00 -- inclusive accommodation, Edinburgh castle sightseeing / Individual sightseeing (embrace all the historical and cultural values that you might not see back in Brunei :) )
Optional tour: Ghost tour at night -- this is subject to extra charges on top of GBP30.00

on 23rd November:
Members will go to the city centre -- shopping for Christmas perhaps & of course to enjoy Edinburgh city life

after all the fun, we will be off to Geordie land. Not to spoil the mood, but we will hit Uni on Monday after our little holiday...

Hold your ground first before getting over excited. First things first. BNS have to know how many people is really interested in going. Our society needs to have 25 people to rent a 55 seater coach. Otherwise, we will have to rent 33 seater coach and only 16 seats for each society.

Some of my international friends has been asking me about membership, if they can join or not.

The answer is: YES! You guys can definitely join. And don't fear about the language, we will do our best to talk in English most of the times, but at the same time you can learn our language and culture. We can translate what we are talking about, so you can understand us better. Don't worry about it too much.

Alhamdulillah, BNS Ice Breaking event was successfully went well. Not to mention a very pleasing number of people actually came for BNS 08 first Ice Breaking session. To those who couldn't make it, there is always next time. To those who chose not to come, you missed all the fun we had.

BNS committee would like to say a big thank you for all the potluck food, attendance and being so super sporting particpating in all the games. Before I forget, I would like to Congratulate to BA's team in "Kaki Tiga" game, to Aida's team, try again next time. Also for the winners for 3-legged race -- you all are cool! Though I lost in the race, Zyra & I learned effective team-working from this race. As well as, how to make effective commands. Others please share your personal experience from BNS Ice Breaking event i.e. what you learn & what could have been done better. Don't hesitate to voice out your opinion (appropriately).

Some pictures for this activity will be uploaded sooner, once ALL the pictures are received.

Beb's Review: My 1st Ice Breaking between Bruneians in Newcastle upon Tyne. However, I always thought that, Ice breaking activity could have been more fun. If we have name tags or randomly select people's name, find them and of course learn about them. Switch the names from others until you talked to everyone. As a whole, it was a great day out for all the members. The food, drinks, desserts (the fruity pie isn't good, don't get it in M & S -- sorry Dex) and the games were just great.

Assalamualaikum everybody. I am Norainni, but many people call me Bebs. And I am comfortable with any nick name, as long as nothing nasty. I personally volunteered to make a new web page for the BNS. To make it more interactive, alive & updated. First of all, I am really sorry not being able to gain access to the current web page due to personal reason. That is why I created 2 new ones & hoping you all out there will vote for one of it. So when we get the results in, one of this web page will be up and running :)

A little bit of my self. I am curently studying BSc Marketing at Newcastle upon Tyne University. Right now I am pursuing my second year in this course. Of course there are ups and downs in my studies. However I still managed surviving until today. You will get to know me better if we will meet at any of the BNS events. Also, you will meet all other members and committees not just from Brunei Darussalam. Start developing your networking people!!!!
